During the COVID-19 lockdown, Fay built a body of work of Cyanotype self portraits. They act as journal entries, capturing a time of external constraints and inner liberation.
Water (Diptych)
Diptych: 59.5 x 81.9cm (framed)
Cyanotype on paper
Water (Diptych) is the fourth of Fay's Cyanotype Self Portrait series. Split between two frames, here the body is fragmented or 'dissected'. The body floats peacefully in 'water', reminiscent of a fetus in a womb. Presenting a challenge of fitting a person into a frame, the piece questions portraiture in its concept. The piece represents an ability to play with perception of reality.
Bust

With thanks to the late-spring/early-summer sun of lockdown. Bust is a self portrait though seemingly anonymous, a realignment and remembering of her Self.

Sleeping Beauty…Preying Mantis…Fay is poised in her safe space, a nook in the Welsh woods. Brewing in retreat over lockdown, she re-aligns an understanding of Self & identity. She breathes; basking in the June sun, muscles loose but tense; 4 minutes to bake.
